 The Blitz Build Has Begun!

In July of this year, once again members of First Presbyterian Church will join hands to help build a home for a Habitat family, Hermanda Gainer, a single mother with three children. Your commitment to build her home as a Blitz Build, will be a remarkable experience for your congregation. Hermanda is renting a dilapidated, rundown home that is literally falling to pieces.  The roof has caved in and the siding is falling off of the house.  An intruder broke into their home through a bedroom window, leaving Hermanda and her three young children anxious and scared.  
Hermanda came to Muncie Habitat with the hope of purchasing a safe, secure home for her family.  Because of our growing relationship with Hermanda we are able to help her make a dramatic difference in her life and the lives of her children.  She is a person who we have come to love, not just because Christ commands us to, but because in getting to know her, she is lovable.  Hermanda is a long time YOC employee, working with the youth there for over 6 years.  She is a joy to spend time with on the jobsite and we are excited for you to get to see her smile and hear her laugh.

12 workers X 7 days = 1 finished home for Hermanda Gainer and her three children.  We need twelve workers each day to complete their home on schedule.  There will be things can be done no matter what your skill level.  Habitat employees and volunteers will be there to match worker skills to jobs that need to be done each day.  Workers must be 18 years old or older everyday except July 17, which workers must be at least 16 years old.  Sign up sheets with the daily build schedules are on the Habitat table in the hallway by the office.  A letter from

Habitat that explains how to register at the Habitat website is also on the Habitat table. Visit the First Pres website and go to the Habitat button for more forms.  Workdays are July 10, 11, and 13-17.   Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. at First Pres so workers can be at the jobsite to get instructions for the day’s work. The jobsite is at 1618 East First Street.  The workday is from 9:00 to 3:00.  Lunch will be served at the jobsite.  Anyone or group that would like to do something special for lunch, such as grill hamburgers/hotdogs, sponsor a pizza or KFC day, or something else, please contact me or Hazel Amos.  Sign up sheets for breakfast food donations, cookies, and servers are on the Habitat table in the hallway by the office. Hazel Amos is in charge of food donations and servers.  Ladies’ Day is Wednesday, July 15. Sitters provided by YCTC. Youth Day is Friday, July 17, for ages 16 years and older.
