 Muncie – Wilma Jane Burton Farr died at the age of 93 due to a lengthy
illness and a poor heart condition.
Mrs. Farr was the daughter of Gale and Dillie Burton, born on August
6, 1916, in Muncie where she lived all of her life. She was a resident
of Morrison Woods Healthcare Center at the time of her death. Wilma Farr
attended Garfield Elementary, Wilson Middle School and was a 1933
graduate of Central High School. She graduated from Ball State
University with a degree in Teaching. She taught school at Harrison
Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary for nine years, prior to marrying
Luther H. Farr in 1946. She was the sister of Donald A. Burton of
Muncie, who preceded her in death.
In 1960, Wilma returned to teaching at Riley Elementary and retired
from there in 1980. Her husband, Luther Farr died in 1979. Mrs. Farr
enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, playing piano, doing needlework
and visiting her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her immediate family: Kathleen Flook, Patricia
Savage, and James W. Savage all of Muncie; her grandchildren: James and
Dawn Savage, Fishers; Emily and Kris Cullen, and Chris Flook, all of
Muncie, Erin and Kevin Schmitt, Mount Vernon; and her
great-grandchildren, Jamie Savage, Fishers, Kaitlyn Cullen, Muncie and
Connor Schmitt, Mount Vernon.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Parson
Mortuary with Pastor Ronald Naylor officiating. Burial will follow in
Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 3:00 p.m.
until 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, or one hour prior to time of
service on Tuesday.
