First Presbyterian Church believes that "marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well-being of the entire human family" (Directory for Worship, from the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church USA), and for that reason we take very seriously our role in assisting couples to plan for their wedding day.
Couples considering First Presbyterian Church as the venue for their wedding should first review the policies and procedures found in our Wedding Booklet and Agreement to be sure they fit with their plans. The information provided in the Wedding Booklet, including all policies and procedures, should assist couples to plan for a wedding ceremony that is simple, joyful, beautiful, and appropriate for our faith tradition. The key to understanding wedding ceremonies in a Presbyterian Church is to remember that weddings are, first and last, a service of worship.
Couples will also need to contact the church office as early as possible in your planning to check on the availability of one of our pastors as well as the sanctuary or chapel on the date you plan to be married. (No wedding is officially scheduled until one of the pastors has given consent to officiate.) Once verbal approval has been obtained, couples will need to submit the completed Wedding Agreement and deposit check to hold your reservation. Pre-marital counselling sessions will be scheduled by the officiating pastor in the weeks leading up to your wedding date.
If you have further questions about weddings at FPC, please contact the church office or one of the pastors.
